This service provides support to people who have recently been discharged from hospital in Nottinghamshire and have little or no support system. Volunteers are paired with someone for up to 6 weeks and will offer support by doing safe and well calls and visits to ensure the person is comfortable in their home. Volunteers will feedback information to our support coordinators who will put support in place for this person.
EMAS currently provides Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS) in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. The Volunteer Car Service is an integral and valued part of NEPTS, providing an invaluable service to the community for patients with a medical need for transport, and who would otherwise be unable to get to their appointments.
We are looking for volunteer drivers to use their own car to take patients to and from hospital appointments.

Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
We transport Bassetlaw residents who are unable to access public transport. The scheme is mainly used by registered clients to go shopping, visit friends or attend appointments.
We have different roles available for volunteer drivers. Any amount of time you can give to the scheme is very much appreciated. Journeys vary from an hour or so on the car scheme to a full day if driving the minibus and everything in between.
We run restorative youth referral order panels for both Nottinghamshire County and Derby City Councils. Part of this is having 2 volunteers from the community to facilitate the order.
This involves an initial panel to help the young person and family identify needs and strategies for help and support in moving forwards, review panels every 12 weeks and a final panel to congratulate the young person and look at their journey.
All we ask of our volunteers is company. Just a good old conversation. We ask for empathy and consideration and to show that you care. We dont ask you to do odd jobs, accompany people on hospital visits, pick up prescriptions - we just ask you to visit an older neighbour in their home or give them a ring and have a good natter.
