EASTER ACTIVITIES AT MISTERTON LIBRARY (+ pic)

Tuesday 2 April sees an afternoon of Easter activities for children and their families at Misterton Library from 2.30-4.30pm.

This year, there’s a host of rabbits (pictured) in danger of escaping – so start looking for them around the village from Friday 22 March. Bring them back to the Library in exchange for a crème egg! Easter activities on 2 April will include an egg hunt, face painting, and much more.

20th ANNIVERSARY OF 5 VILLAGES FIRST RESPONDERS

The Five Villages First Responders (FVFR) celebrates its 20th anniversary with a coffee morning on Saturday 27 April. The volunteer responders work alongside East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) in the local villages - the life-saving scheme was launched 20 years ago and has continued to serve the local community with the team of First Responders called to over 3200 medical emergencies over those 20 years. The group responds to calls in West Stockwith, Misterton, Beckingham, Walkeringham, and Gringley on the Hill, and many other locations across North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

The FVFR team is holding a celebration coffee morning on Saturday 27 April 2024, from 10.00am to 12noon at the Methodist Hall, High Street, Misterton DN10 4BU, followed by a free public awareness session on how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator from 12noon until 1.00pm. Everyone is invited to come along for a hot drink and slice of cake to celebrate 20 years of this vital local voluntary organisation.

For further information about FVFR or the 20th anniversary celebration, please visit the website at www.fvfr.co.uk, e-mail contact@fvfr.co.uk, see the team’s Facebook page, or contact Group Co-ordinator Martyn Johnson on 07866 567 600.

RENOVATION PROJECTS IN THE VILLAGE

West Stockwith Parish Council is pursuing two renovation projects in the village, using funds from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is paid by the developers of new houses in the village. The old signpost at the junction of Ings Lane and Main Street will be renovated, and a quotation is being obtained to refurbish the old telephone kiosk near Malt Kiln.

SPRING CLEAN DATE AGREED

The Parish Council has agreed a date for the annual ‘spring clean’. It is on Tuesday 26 March at 6.00pm, meeting at the junction of North Carr Road and Main Street. Bin bags, gloves, and hi-vis vests are provided – and there’s refreshments for volunteers in the White Hart afterwards.

VACANCIES FOR LOCAL ON-CALL FIRE OFFICERS

Misterton’s Fire & Rescue Service is recruiting On Call officers; the recruitment window is open until Monday 15 April. The current team is made up of men and women of all ages, who live or work in the villages of Misterton, West Stockwith, and Walkeringham - they all have different strengths (and weaknesses), life experiences, and knowledge. This makes them a strong team when faced with difficult or challenging situations.

Read what it’s all about at www.notts-fire.gov.uk/careers/on-call-firefighters/. Misterton Fire Station is also home to a medical co-response vehicle, which is staffed by firefighters to respond to medical emergencies in the area on behalf of the East Midlands Ambulance Service. To ensure their skills are kept up-to-date for any incidents, the crew trains every Tuesday night between 6.30-9.00 pm. Misterton is also home to a unique community safety facility called Risky Rooms. Set up in the drill yard, this is a room designed and set up to emulate a normal home that contains a variety of fire hazards and other risks. Staff at Misterton run regular tours for school children where they highlight the risks that exist, and how they can be rectified.
