OASIS Launch - Thursday 9th June 10am -1pm

New Armed Forces Veterans’ Support Hub for Worksop at the EDGE

Thursday 9th June 2022 sees the launch of Worksop’s new Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub. It will be held at The Oasis Community Centre’s ‘The Edge’ building on Plantation Hill in Kilton. The Hub will bring together a range of specialist organisations who will be on hand to provide help and advice from people who understand veterans’ needs. All ex-military personnel and their families are welcome.

‘The Edge’ already provides a place of support and comradeship for men in Worksop to meet up and socialise every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 1pm. Any Veterans and groups who refer people to groups are welcome to come and share in this launch day.

The new Veterans’ Hub will be able to offer tailored support specifically for ex-military and their families.  The Hub has the support of Bassetlaw District Council Armed Forces Champion Tony Eaton. It aims to become a central point of contact for Veterans needing help or guidance on any matter and will be managed by The Oasis Community Centre with help from veterans themselves.

Following the launch, weekly sessions running from 10am to 1pm will be held every Thursday. They will provide practical support to those who have served in the Armed Forces, now looking to settle into a new way of life. In addition, the relaxed feel of the Hub provides a great place to socialise and meet up with like minded people. Focused presentations and workshops are planned to be held in line with demand.

More information is available on the day – no need to book, just drop in. Refreshments will be served throughout the morning. There is limited on site parking but ample off street parking. The postcode of ‘The Edge’ is S81 0DT and What3words is ‘awake.cycle.expand’. For more information please call Steve on 07795 194957

OASIS Launch - THRIVING - June 14th at 7.30pm

For men who have been affected by or been victims of sexual abuse and domestic abuse

The first meeting is at the White Lion Pub in Worksop at 7.30pm. The group will be very relaxed and men will have opportunity to talk about issues and problems either historic or current and hear about opportunities, workshops and other support available to men who have been affected by these concerns. Refreshments will be provided in a non threatening environment. Come and meet with men who understand how you feel and what you have gone through or going through.

The UK statistics show that as much as one in 6 men will have been affected by some kind of abuse in their lives.  Yet there is so little support for men and so many find it hard to talk about these kind of needs. Abuse can cause so many mental and physical health problems and lead many feeling depressed, anxious or even suicidal. So many men remain in silence about abuse and this group will give them an opportunity to open up and share with others who understand how they are feeling.

We have counsellors who will work with individual men in a more confidential way if needed and we will also be leading workshops and groups to support men in many different ways and aspects.

The group is part of the EDGE programme supporting men in every season and aspect of their lives. We currently run 'Drop In'

mornings for all men on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 - 1pm at the EDGE on Plantation Hill in Worksop.
