CORONATION FAMILY PICNIC DRAWS THE CROWDS (+ pic – more available if required)

In perfect weather, hundreds of residents made their way to the Old School Field on Sunday 7 May for a Coronation family picnic. The band, The Unthinkables, played songs people recognised, children enjoyed circus skills and football while grown-ups drank the bar dry, 38 people sat down to a posh picnic by Chalet Girl Catering, Hepy's Hog Roast also kept people fed and made a generous donation to the Parish Council's fund-raising, the Cancer Research tombola ran out of prizes and raised around £300 - a lovely way to celebrate the previous day's Coronation. Matt Hunt won first prize in the Parish Council's raffle, and Ella Swindin (pictured) won the best crown competition.

Many thanks to North Notts First Responders, who were on hand to deal with any incidents (there weren't any) - and to the Parish Council's Events Working Group (and helpers), who put the whole thing together.

PARISH COUNCIL HAS NEW ‘JUNIOR’ COUNCILLORS

Misterton Parish Council will welcome a ‘junior’ parish councillor and deputy to its meetings as it tries to improve and increase the input young people have to the Council’s business. Harry Jackson and Suriya Kaur stood for election, which ran alongside the District Council election on Thursday 4 May. Harry won the ballot but Suriya’s enthusiasm led to the Parish Council involving both young people, with Suriya as deputy.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

RESIDENTS TURN OUT FOR VILLAGE ‘SPRING CLEAN’ (+ pic)

The Parish Council’s annual litter pick in early May saw nearly 20 volunteers tackle the village’s ‘grot spots’ and bring in half a dozen bags of rubbish. Many thanks to all who took part – the Parish Council treated volunteers to a buffet in the Village Hall afterwards. The litter pick was timed to ensure that the village was clean and tidy before the Coronation – a feature of the Coronation was service to others and West Stockwith volunteers took an early opportunity to join the Big Help Out, which encouraged people nation-wide to get involved in a volunteering project near where they live.
