LIBRARY'S EASTER EGG HUNT A GREAT SUCCESS! (+ pic)

Sixty Easter chicks that had ‘escaped’ from Misterton Library were found and     exchanged for crème eggs. But too many children to count turned up at the Library for an Easter egg hunt where activities were laid on for children. Pictured is 6-year-old Azalea Crossley—hard at work at an Easter activity. Refreshments were provided - many thanks to everyone who supported the event and to the Library volunteers for all their hard work to make it happen.

The Library has an extensive range of books for youngsters so come along any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon between 2.00-5.00pm, or on the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings, 9.30am-12.30pm.

● Misterton Library will again be taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge, this year called Ready, Set, Read! It invites children, aged 4 to 11, to read six or more library books between Saturday 8 July and Sunday 3 September. There are rewards for each book read, with a medal and certificate for every child who completes the Challenge. This year, children join the team (and their animal mascots) as they weave their way through an obstacle course. There will be more information in the Library nearer the time.

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH CHATSWORTH GARDENERS

Mick Brown, Chatsworth’s Production Garden Manager, will go behind the horticultural scenes and look at the fruit, veg, and flowers at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. On Wednesday 10 May, he will meet members of Everton, Gringley, and Misterton Gardeners Clubs at Gringley Community Centre at 7.30pm. The event is open to non-members but all tickets (£10 inc tea and cake) must be pre-booked. Call Sandra on 07808 480 892 to book.

TIME TO WATCH OUT FOR TICKS

As the weather improves and we head out into our gardens and the countryside, it’s time to watch out for ticks. Ticks can be found all over the UK - in woodland, heathland, long grass, and even parks and gardens. A bite by a tick can lead to Lyme Disease, which can have severe consequences. A Misterton resident, who suffered a tick bite, has only just started to get the treatment he needs - after four years of suffering a range of unpleasant symptoms. So wake up to ticks! For more information on the signs of a tick bite, symptoms, and treatment, go to the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease/

PARISH ASSEMBLY

The Parish Assembly and monthly meeting of the Parish Council was on Thursday 13 April in the Gertrude Morris Memorial Hall. Chair, Cllr Sue Harford, outlined the achievements in 2022/23 at the Parish Assembly, which will be her last as Chair of the Council. The Parish Council was asked by the Village Hall committee to take over the ownership of the building due to their age profile and the lack of volunteers. The transfer of responsibility, with the Parish Council assuming the role of sole trustee, took place on 1 January 2023. Further key points from the annual review will be included in a future residents’ newsletter.
