COFFEE MORNING DONATES TO LOCAL GOOD CAUSES (+ pic)

Those attending the monthly coffee morning in the Church Room in Misterton made donations of £150 to two good causes: Five Villages First Responders and Misterton Parish Church. Pictured is the co-ordinator of the Tuesday Coffee Club, Dorothy Richardson (centre), with Samantha Deakin and Rick Brand. The First Responders work in partnership with East Midlands Ambulance Service. The team of volunteers responds to life-threatening emergencies in the area following a 999 call. They are trained in defibrillation, resuscitation, oxygen therapy, and to care for patients with medical conditions or injuries and can give vital care until the arrival of an ambulance. They also install public access defibrillators and provide training to members of the community to use them.

Misterton Parish Church has launched consultation on plans to carry out essential work that will see underpinning of the north wall, improvements to the tower and bells, and a re-modelled interior. The works will cost over £350,000 so the Church Council will be applying for grants to cover the cost - though it has some funds, it is nowhere near enough. The consultation ends on Sunday 30 April.

The Tuesday Coffee Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 10.30am in the Church Room. Tea/coffee and freshly-baked treats are £2 with an additional £1 to enter the raffle.

CHURCH’S ANNUAL MEETING

Misterton Parish Church will hold its Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) on Monday 24 April at 7.00pm in the Church Room. Forms are now available in Church (on a table at the rear of the pews) for nomination to the Electoral Roll, to elect Churchwardens, and to join the Parochial Church Council (PCC). Each of the forms gives details of qualifying criteria. The Church is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily. If closed, the forms are on the Parish Resources website (www.parishresources.org.uk/pccs/apcms/) or ring the PCC Secretary, Hazel Brand, on (01427) 891376.

PLANS FOR CORONATION CELEBRATION

West Stockwith Parish Council discussed plans for a village celebration of King Charles lll’s coronation. Residents will be contacted and asked if they wish to have a commemorative memento. Those requesting one will be invited to the Village Hall to collect them – and to enjoy tea and cakes between 2.00-5.00pm. Decorative flowers will be bought to dress a number of lamp-posts.

VILLAGE SPRING CLEAN

The Parish Council is organising a litter-pick around the village on Tuesday 2 May, meeting at the Malt Kiln at 6.00pm and ending with refreshments for volunteers in the Village Hall. The date has been chosen to ensure the village is looking its best for the Coronation and associated events. Waste bags, gloves, hi-vis vests, etc will be provided.

CONCERT PLAYS TO PACKED CHURCH

Story-teller Susan Hollingworth, accompanied by Andrea Jefferies and Caroline Clemmow on the piano, entertained the audience at a packed church this month (Wednesday  8 March). This was the first of West Stockwith’s season of concerts. They covered a range of poetry and stories, ending with a performance of Paddington’s First Concert.

l Work on the Church roof has finished but the Church Council is now raising funds to carry out interior repairs and decoration. So the next date in the concert series is Sunday 9 July with a performance by the Lydian Singers. Further details will follow.
