PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER
Copies of the Summer newsletter have now been delivered to all households, with information on how to access police reports about crimes in the village, setting up My Notts App to access County Council services, volunteering opportunities, a new website giving details of local clubs and societies – and much more. If you’ve mislaid a copy, more are available in The Misterton Centre & Library.
COUNCIL REORGANISATION
The way local councils in England are organised is being fundamentally changed for the first time in 50 years. All nine local councils across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are working together to gather views on how local government should work in the future. A survey is open to everyone who lives, works, or has an interest in the area.
If approved, all nine existing councils would be abolished and replaced with two new, larger councils. These new councils would each be responsible for delivering all local services in their area, bringing everything from housing and social care to waste collection and road maintenance under one organisation. Currently, responsibilities are split between different councils.
Feedback from this survey will help shape the final proposals, which must be submitted to Government by November 2025. The Government will then decide how and when the new arrangements will be introduced. To take part in the survey, go to Bassetlaw District Council’s website and follow the link from the home page. Responses should be sent by Sunday 14 September 2025.
Parish and town councils are not included in this reorganisation (though some knock-on effects are envisaged).
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre is continuing to help people in in the district. They need volunteers to help with a number of services where they will be given full training and expenses paid. The roles are:
drivers – using their own car or one of BAC’s vehicles (a wheelchair accessible vehicle or a minibus) to take people to appointments, shopping or on social visits
befrienders – creating friendships and talking regularly to people either face to face or on the phone
supported hospital discharge service volunteer – helping people who have recently been discharged from hospital to settle back home by doing odd jobs such as light cleaning or shopping or offering a short-term befriending service
administrator – general administrative duties within the Retford office.
Commitments can be as little as one hour a week and are structured to fit around the volunteer’s life. If you think that you might be a good match for one of these roles, or would like to ask some questions, please call 01777 709650, e-mail enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk or visit BAC’s website (bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk).

PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER & SURVEY
The latest issue of the Parish Council’s newsletter has now been delivered to all households. Also delivered was another copy of a survey that residents are asked to complete. This is a repeat of the survey sent out earlier this year – but only 10 residents replied. Some residents said they did not receive it – as it was with the last Parish Council’s newsletter, does that mean they didn’t read that either? Your feedback on the future development of the village is important to the Parish Council.
