GOODWIN CHARITY – HELP AVAILABLE
The Goodwin Trust offers grants to residents of any age, providing they live in the area covered by the former East Retford Rural District Council. This includes Misterton and West Stockwith. Grants can be made for assistance to anyone in need for a variety of needs, including mobility scooters, stair lifts, and white goods. Roof repairs, funeral costs, and bathroom alterations have also been funded previously. Trustees will also consider applications for temporary hardship, such as after fire, theft, flooding, or loss of employment. In exceptional cases, the Trustees may also provide a grant to cover the special needs of people with long-term illness, for example patients receiving dialysis while on holiday.
Call 01909 239911 or e-mail goodwincharity@outlook.com for further details or an application form. All inquiries are confidential but Trustees cannot approve a request if the work has already been done or an item bought.
DO YOU NEED TO REAPPLY FOR A POSTAL VOTE?
Following changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022, postal voters are required to reapply for their postal vote every three years. So postal voters, who made their current application before 31 October 2023, are required to reapply for their postal vote by 31 January 2026. This applies to 14,800 electors in Bassetlaw.
The District Council will be sending an initial e-mail to all affected electors where the Council holds an e-mail address (7800 electors) this week, notifying them that their entitlement to vote by post will expire on 31 January 2026. If they wish to continue to vote by post, they will need to submit a new postal vote application.
All other postal voters affected, for whom the Council does not hold an e-mail address, and those that do not respond to the e-mail, will receive a letter from the Council in the coming months. Council staff will also be including a leaflet in the canvass communication letters that will be mailed out from the end of July.
An application form can be downloaded (www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-for-a-postal-vote). They can also request a paper application form by e-mailing elections@bassetlaw.gov.uk or contacting elections staff on 01909 533252.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
The last meeting of the Parish Council was on Thursday 10 July when councillors noted the following:
with the resignation of Corinne Coper, there is a vacancy on the Parish Council. The District Council has been notified and, if there are no requests for a by-election, the Parish Council will be free to co-opt
allotment holders will get a letter requesting them to tidy up their gardens
the Parish Council is in discussion with the Parish Church about another joint Christmas carol event. A Christmas tree will be ordered
councillors were informed that major road works along the length of the A161 in Misterton will result in overnight road closures between 8.00pm and 6.00am. Work is scheduled from Monday 21 July until Monday 18 August. Full details of which roads are affected and when are on Misterton Parish Council’s Facebook page – and Via, Notts County Council’s highways contractor, has written to affected households.
