WATSON’S FINAL PROBLEM: PERFORMANCE IN PARISH CHURCH (+ pic)
A packed Parish Church was treated to a stunning performance of a one-man play, Watson: the Final Problem on Sunday 25 May. The performance by Tim Marriott, better known for his role as Gavin Featherly in the BBC sitcom The Brittas Empire, received a standing ovation for his dramatisation of the loss of his crime-solving partner, Sherlock Holmes, and his life thereafter. He co-wrote the play in 2019 with Sherlock Holmes specialist, Bert Coules. An audio version was made during the first Covid lockdown, followed by a try-out performance in Eastbourne. Since then, Marriott has taken the play in the UK and abroad to great success.
Over 70 people were in the church for the performance. Marriott stayed afterwards and said this was his “favourite gig” yet, with a genuine West Stockwith welcome. The Parochial Church Committee will try to book him with his other play, a PTSD-themed solo show, Shell Shock.
