PARISH COUNCIL SELECTS VILLAGE CHAMPIONS (+ pic)
Members of Misterton Parish Council selected their 2024 Village Champions, from the nominations submitted, at the April meeting of the Parish Council. Joseph Pacheco (pictured left) and Emma Durham received their awards from the Chair of Misterton Parish Council, Cllr Peter Marsden, at the Sunday 4 May family day on the old school field.
The junior award went to Joseph Pacheco. He has helped at numerous village events, including Parish Council events and the Gala, which he helped to set up and close down the event, and was volunteering throughout the whole day. In addition, he has helped putting up the village Christmas trees, and with some maintenance of the community garden. Having his efforts recognised may encourage other young people to help in our community.
Emma was nominated for her active involvement with the local junior football club since 2021 as welfare officer, first aider, and mini kicks coach. When her son's current team was left without a manager, Emma stepped up as the sole coach for seven months. Just after the first match of the season, she successfully recruited an assistant coach to support the team. She also coaches children aged 3 to 6; more recently, she and her assistant have introduced sessions for 7-9-year-olds, focusing on fun, ball-based activities without the pressure of committing to a full team. She manages all of this while working full-time, raising two children, and actively contributing to the community as a member of the local village Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and Parish Council's Sports Ground Working Group.
Congratulations to them both!
4TH OF MAY FUN DAY
Many thanks to all who attended the Parish Council's Star Wars-themed family fun day. Two residents were presented with their Village Champion awards: Joseph Pacheco and Emma Durham. Thanks to those who got into the spirit of Star Wars with their costumes. The Giant Hogweed played for free as it was a charity event - thanks to the band - and the raffle raised £186 for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. If anyone would like to support this worthy cause, which has gone to the assistance of Misterton residents over the years, and donate £14 to make a round £200, please call into The Misterton Centre.
Many thanks to Martin of The Joker Entertainment for stilt-walking and balloon-modelling, the White Hart in West Stockwith for providing the bar, and Sarah's Sweet Treats in Misterton for refreshments.
BE A BINNER, NOT A BLOCKER
Severn Trent Water is running a campaign to highlight the importance of what residents put down their loos. All manner of strange things have been found in sewers by Severn Trent operatives: underwear, false teeth… but the worst thing for causing blockages? Wet wipes. Bags of them are removed from sewers every week.
Top tips for the bathroom:
only ever flush the 3Ps: pee, poo and (toilet) paper
bag sanitary towels, tampons, and colostomy bags then bin them
bin wet wipes, even the ones that are labelled ‘flushable’
use a bin for nappies, incontinence pads, razors, cotton buds, and dental floss.
The responsibility for unblocking sewer pipes is split between the water company and the homeowner. If there's a blockage in Severn Trent’s sewers or pipework, they clear it. But if the blockage is in pipework inside the boundary of your property, you will be responsible for clearing and repairing it. So be a binner, not a blocker!
