COUNCIL GRANT HELPS FUND NEW CRICKET SQUARE (+ pic)
A £200 grant from District Cllr Hazel Brand’s community fund has helped to clear and re-seed the grass cricket square at Misterton’s sports ground. The grant was made to Misterton Phoenix Cricket Club and received by Mike Robertson, Chair (pictured with Cllr Brand). After the demise of a previous cricket club, Mike and other volunteers have raised a new club from the ashes – hence named Phoenix – and has an active membership of young and old, male and female.
● Cllr Brand has £250 remaining in the 2024/25 grants money. If anyone would like to bid for some or all of it, get an application form from The Misterton Centre. This will spell out the eligibility criteria. The window for applications ends in early February.
MISTERTON LIBRARY LAUNCHES JIGSAW EXCHANGE
From 3.00pm on Tuesday 14 January, a new service will be available at Misterton Library. Volunteers are launching a jigsaw puzzle exchange. Details of the jigsaw loan service are now available – so instead of buying a new puzzle, pop along to the jigsaw exchange and swap one you’ve done for another one.
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk). Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

COMMUNITY GRANTS
For the new municipal year (2024/25), District councillors have again each been given a £1000 grant fund. Cllr Hazel Brand has just £250 left so get an application form from The Misterton Centre and get an application to Cllr Brand. Application forms, giving the eligibility criteria for grants, are available from The Misterton Centre (ring 890646 or e-mail themistertoncentre@outlook.com). There have been no applications from West Stockwith this year so it would be good to see an
application from the village.
