ABOUT THE PEER/VOLUNTEER-LED SUPPORT GROUPS:

The groups are peer and volunteer-led and aim to support those with moderate to medium mental health issues or those who can moderate their behaviour during the group session. The groups are open to all; however, certain values must be adhered to, and members must be in control of themselves, meaning the groups have a zero-tolerance for, aggressive behaviours, drugs, and alcohol while at the groups. New members can be supported by a carer or healthcare professional in the first instance and on an ongoing basis if found helpful.

The groups can be a community, informal friendships, or constituted groups

  • The groups support those with moderate to medium mental health issues or those who can moderate their behaviour during the session.
  • The groups can aim to help members maintain their own well-being levels by sharing similar lived experiences.
  • Alternatively, they can be about distraction, diversion, interruption, or respite, as in an art group.
  • This sharing/distraction enables members to give a unique quality of mutual support.
  • It enables members to share and swap skill sets.
  • Groups are peer and volunteer led.
  • The groups do not offer to counsel
  • The groups also have access to local support information and signposting options.
  • The groups aim to help members find new ways to cope to help maintain individual wellbeing.
  • The groups ethos is to offer a forum to show kindness and give hope.

A Carers Service was held at the Crooked Spire All Saints Church in Chesterfield (the 8th of December) A lovely day was had by all, where we were given a chance to say thank you to all the carers, the event was hosted by Derbyshire Carers. The Wellbeing Wednesday Singing Group (who are based in Ripley) were invited to sing a few songs including: Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Merry Christmas Everyone. They were excellent renditions and went down a storm with everyone. Hymns where also played including Silent Night, God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen and Joy to the World. It felt good to be a part of and everyone clearly enjoyed the afternoon, the Trinity Wind Band also delighted everyone throughout. For more information about the singing group head here https://wednesdaywellbeingsinging.com/ I also listened to; All I want for Christmas is a hippopotamus for the first time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjPm0o04lGE and is well worth listening to. Happy New Year everyone.
