Opportunity Description: Volunteer to help in the Bassetlaw Veterans Hub allotment which also has access to a large poly-tunnel to grow indoor fruit or veg. There are other allotments available but ours has been set aside for Veterans and their families. You can grow your own vegetables, learn (or teach) new skills and give back surplus produce to help the Food Bank to support vulnerable people.
In partnership with Bassetlaw Food Bank’s Grow it..Fix it project and Bassetlaw District Council Armed Forces Covenant Team, local veterans and their families could join in training and workshops in all sorts of skills which will be run at the Hub. They even have a bee hive ! There is also space to just come and chat and have a brew if you want to join like-minded people or if you want one to one support yourself.

Who we are looking for: Veterans and their families. Or if you want to support Veterans with an opportunity to teach gardening, growing skills, woodworking skills or repairing furniture and white goods, you will be able to use the fully stocked workshop which is on-site as well. There will also be befriending opportunities and caretaking opportunities ( opening up, locking up, watering ( in growing season etc) or just making a brew. We would love to welcome you.
Requirements:
Suitable for: People with Visual Impairment, Employee Volunteers, Outdoor, With Friends, Older People
Practical considerations: There is disabled parking available and ramps for wheelchair /mobility aids to the hub and the workshop.
No persons under the age of 16 years will be able to have access to the site without a responsible adult with them at all times
This is a community venture in partnership with Bassetlaw Food Bank so access at weekends may be limited to availability of key -holders
