CAR TREASURE HUNT

Enjoy a leisurely drive around beautiful north Notts, visiting some places you may not have seen before. Each car will be given a set of 10 clues to help find the way from place to place. The treasure hunt is on Saturday 17 May, starting at the Church Room, Church Lane, Misterton, from 2.00pm. No need to book – just come along and pick up the clues then cars will be set off in 5-10-minute intervals. The cost is £10 per car with four bottles of wine worth around £30 for the winning car, courtesy of Lincolnshire Co-op, and chocolates for the runner-up! Proceeds go towards maintenance of Misterton’s 11th century church.

LEARN TO PLAY A UKELE

Another new opportunity at Misterton Library starts on Saturday 17 May. The East Midlands Ukulele Project has kindly donated two ukuleles to the Library. These can be borrowed to have a chance to learn to play. A local Ukulele group, Groovy Tuesdays, will be at the Library on Saturday 17 May to perform a few songs and to demonstrate what an easy and fun instrument the ukulele is to play.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example

  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available

  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending

  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face

  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

BE A BINNER, NOT A BLOCKER

Severn Trent Water is running a campaign to highlight the importance of what residents put down their loos. All manner of strange things have been found in sewers by Severn Trent operatives: underwear, false teeth… but the worst thing for causing blockages? Wet wipes. Bags of them are removed from sewers every week.

Top tips for the bathroom:

  • only ever flush the 3Ps: pee, poo and (toilet) paper

  • bag sanitary towels, tampons, and colostomy bags then bin them

  • bin wet wipes, even the ones that are labelled ‘flushable’

  • use a bin for nappies, incontinence pads, razors, cotton buds, and dental floss.

The responsibility for unblocking sewer pipes is split between the water company and the homeowner. If there's a blockage in Severn Trent’s sewers or pipework, they clear it. But if the blockage is in pipework inside the boundary of your property, you will be responsible for clearing and repairing it. So be a binner, not a blocker!
