Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service join forces with Mansfield CVS and announce new funding to support volunteering opportunities for local young people.

Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service (BCVS) in partnership with  Mansfield Community and Voluntary Service (MCVS) have today welcomed confirmation of £35,067 awarded for the Y-Volunteer project which will develop new volunteer roles for young people across Bassetlaw and Mansfield.  Y-Volunteer will support young people to create young volunteer-led social media campaigns around volunteering and will create new volunteer opportunities for local young people.

This represents one of the 80 grants awarded to community groups and charities and funded by Nottinghamshire County Council.   The grant forms part of the Council’s continued commitment to encourage healthy and thriving communities as the county continues its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Andria Birch, CEO of BCVS today said “We are delighted to receive this funding which will enable us to support a new generation of volunteers.  We know volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, gain new skills and make a positive impact on society.    Y-Volunteer will put diverse young people at the heart of developing new opportunities and will enable young people to lead the way and develop the voluntary and community sector of the future”.

Steve Morris, CEO of Mansfield Community and Voluntary Service added; “Life skills, aspiration and opportunities – the 3 things the young people in Mansfield crave. This award allows us to put all these together in a new and innovative way. If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s the value of volunteers is greater than a sum of its parts. Supporting the next generation of Volunteers is key building a knowledge, new skills, relationship and enthusiasm for our great sector. Working with our youth volunteers we can help shape the future of volunteering provision, this is truly an exciting time”
