Bowls green
Beckingham Bowls Club has been running since 1948 and is the only surviving sports club in the village. The club has teams in 4 leagues:
Gainsborough Bowls League
Monday & Wednesday eveningsIsle of Axholme Seniors League North
Isle of Axholme Seniors League Central
Tuesday afternoonsIsle of Axholme Evening League
Fridays
The season runs from mid April to early September and in addition to the league matches, there are Club singles, doubles and triples competitions for all members, as well as the opportunity to enter individual league competitions. During March, members get together with their partners for Sunday lunch at a local hostelry, followed by the Annual Clean Up in the middle of April, and the Management Committee meet regularly to control the affairs of the Club. The green and site is wholly maintained and improved by members, with funding raised from annual subscriptions, match fees, open and social events, visitors’ fees, and hire of green as a neutral venue for league and individual competitions
The format of the open events may change from year to year to maintain interest, and in July 2015 for example, the Beckingham Open Pairs was held over a full day at the weekend when 28 pairs of players competed for a trophy and cash prizes. Food prepared by members and their partners is available all day in the Village Hall. For details of the format of current events, please click on “Latest Bowls Club News” below.
At the end of the season a Presentation Evening (including a meal) is arranged for members and their partners in the Willow Works. The A.G.M is usually held in January in the Recreation Room.
The Club is open to everyone over the age of thirteen, and Club Nights are held during the season on Thursdays from 6pm, when anyone interested in playing and finding out more about full or just social membership is welcome to come along. Non members can play on the green at other times if accompanied by a paid up member. Woods are available and flat shoes are required on the green. Green opens Friday 30 April for limited socially distanced play, from 12 noon weekdays, and any time at weekends. League matches commence effective 17 May, and Club Nights start Thursday 20 May and every Thursday from 6pm. Ring Roger on 01427 848628 for details.
