D2N2 - Opportunity for Employers and Providers to shape digital skills training for the D2N2 economy
Last week D2N2 LEP we were informed by the Department for Education that following information submitted by the LEP Skills team they intend to take forward one of three Digital Training Initiatives in the D2N2 area which will seek to test different funding processes and routes to inform wider preparation for the National Skills Fund from 2021 onwards.
“We aim to award up to 3 contracts (1 per area) to partner organisations consisting of local employers, digital/ICT training providers, local authorities and the FE sector to evidence digital skills shortage vacancies and design and deliver approximately 12-week training courses to provide a pipeline of individuals to fill those roles (when possible we will expand to include other technical skills).”
This will represent a significant investment (circa 1 million) to pilot digital training opportunities for those age 19+ in the area, and the LEP is looking to take forward an Employer led digital/ ICT training proposal which is co-designed with employers, FE institutions and private training providers.
To help develop a strong bid for D2N2, it is vital that we have strong employer voice on the digital skill gaps that need to be addressed. Booking information and further key dates are listed below:
• 30th of July 2.30 till 4 pm
o D2N2 LEP Digital Skills: Employer Engagement event. This session will be led by the LEP Skills team for local employers with digital recruitment challenges and who are interested in participating in the pilot. Questions to consider will be shared with those attending in advance to allow us to discuss and capture in the session; evidence of skills shortage needs, employer insights into the needs of industry training programmes, ideas around employer involvement, ideas around delivery and how to best reach and support individuals with protected characteristics.

I hope you will consider joining the events above - the key to a strong bid is evidence of employer commitment and involvement, and good partnerships with providers and FE institutions therefore early response to this opportunity is vital! Please share this email with wider colleagues to whom this may be of interest, and in particular could I ask anyone who is part of an Employment and Skills group or Business Representation Organisation to share this with their private sector members.
