This will be an important opportunity to give notice to Boris Johnson and his new government that we will not tolerate racism and the re-booting of the hostile environment for minority communities, migrants and refugees. Our branches have been very active since the election in resisting deportation flights, attacks on the Chinese community, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic hate crimes. A small story: a racist in Norwich who fly-posted We only speak English in this tower block ‘ was met with a protest by 50 local people. He hadn’t thought a Stand up to Racism member might live in his block!
PUBLIC MEETING IN MATLOCK Monday March 9th at the Imperial Rooms, Imperial Rd DE4 3NL 7.30pm (refreshments from 7.0pm) Opportunity to hear BRENDAN WOODHOUSE, fire fighter who volunteers on rescue ships in the Mediterranean. He will give an eyewitness account of his experiences. Plus NAHELLA ASHRAF from Manchester Stand up to Racism, nominated for the British Muslim Award 2020 for her anti-racist campaigning. Plus local speakers.
SAFE PASSAGE for Unaccompanied Refugee children. We are lobbying local Tory MPS who voted to remove the rights of these children from the Brexit Bill, After March 23rd they will have no rights under the Dublin Regulations. NEW SYRIAN REFUGEE FAMILY SETTLE IN BUXTON, we are supporting a new family and need financial donations but also following: double wardrobe, small freezer, sandwich toaster, BBQ, Clothes and toys for 2 girls aged 5 and 3. Plus a car seat for the 3 year old.
In addition we have had requests from other families for: Bike for young teenage boy, Tumble Dryer.
