Encouraging Community Action

Where we are and What we do

Bassetlaw is the northern part of Nottinghamshire, England - Robin Hood and Pilgrim Fathers country.

There are two towns: Retford and Worksop + 75 villages. The London/Edinburgh railway runs through Retford and the A1 road runs through Bassetlaw with the M1 motorway close to the west.

BCVS is the local Council for Voluntary Service working for Northern Nottinghamshire.

Surveys and Research
We support others or directly undertake ourselves surveys and research which helps to identify needs, explore new ideas and areas of work.

Consultancy to local organisations
We help local community organisations to be more effective.  Help is given in such areas as: meeting rooms, media links, training, artwork, community transport, work space, advice on volunteering (see INVOLVE below) constitutions, technological consultancy/help.  We will continue a particular emphasis on small Group support.  We have a major role in helping local community interests access new resources.

Economic Development and Regeneration
We positively support people who are unemployed and generally explore the area between social welfare and the local economic situation.   We have a key role, along with others, in regeneration initiatives.

Fund Raising
We help local community organisations to find funding for their work.  Funding has been sourced from the National Lottery,
local and national charities and other sources.
If you need help with finding funds please contact us to arrange an appointment.
We have friendly staff who will work with you to help find that much needed source of funds.

Community Transport
We support the Bassetlaw Community Car Scheme and Clowne Community Transport in any way that is helpful.  The BCVS takes part in relevant community transport forums.

Young People
We encourage community involvement and awareness by young people.

Environmental
We work with others to encourage further environmental initiatives and awareness in Bassetlaw, North Nottinghamshire.

Arts
We encourage arts related activity in community situations.

Community Information
We work with others in producing useful community information.  We place special emphasis in promoting information to the general public and local organisations.
